Worst Game Ever Redux

This week's game smelled more than Cary Grant taking a bath in skunks after a bout of hot sweaty man love. Though the match began with a heartwarming tribute to two recently deceased celebrities, the Bernie Macs Forever--led by first-time manager Ron Parkins--quickly succumbed to the brutal intensity and je na se qua of Dave McCary's juggernaut collection, R.I.P. Isaac Hayes.

Some "highlights":

1) B-Macs' 1-2-3 top of the first, followed by The R.I.P.'s eight-run explosion in the bottom of the first. The tone was set.

2) The numerous motivational speeches by Skipper Parkins.

3) Mustang's "golden boy" status for cutting the deficit from 18-0 to 18-1 in the 7th.

4) Josh. Always.

5) Albi steps to the plate in the 9th, epic comeback still in reach (only 20 runs to tie!). The crowd rises, a whisper on their lips, "Albi...Albi..." The words grow stronger, "Albi, Albi." It becomes a furious torrent of audible yearning, "Albi! Albi!" ...Then he sends a lazy pop fly to third.

Luckily, the Cha Cha Lounge's patented Bloody Marys were there to reward the victors and console losers alike. Besides, there's always next week. Keep checking back this week for some photos of the game and (possibly) info about a radical housewarming party.

We're Back!!!

I don't know if anyone is still checking in here. I apologize profusely for not being a diligent blogger. Oh well.

Here's the news:

We are playing this week at 3:00. I tried to go see the kickballers who have supposedly reserved the field for the upcoming weeks, but they were not there when I went by last week. I have received word that they have only reserved it until 3:00. So, we're going over there to play, and if we have to wait a little, we wait. I am itching to get on the field real bad.

If the kickballers are assholes and aren't finished by 3:00, we'll figure out something else. There are many other fields (though none compare in privacy and verve to Tommy's) and I suppose we could have a little barnstorming around Los Angeles diamonds this month, but let's see if we can stay at home.

See you all on Sunday!

Cinco de Mayo Softball

Hey Softballers!

It pleases me to announce that tomorrow's game is the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Tommy Lasorda Field of Dreams! This year, we're gonna celebrate it better than ever with Carne Asada on the grill and, well, that's all I got so far. I didn't get a chance to get any sombreros or pinatas, but at least we'll have a great game! If you want to bring anything fun, I suggest it! I won't be arriving until 2:00 as the days are getting longer and hotter.

Recap: Worst Game Ever

So, I think we got through 5 innings and wow, was it a stinker for my team, The Monsters. It was too damn hot. I don't really have too much more to say about it except U-G-L-Y. Those of you who chose to ditch L.A. and go hang out in Indio with a ton of other people, you didn't miss much, though we did miss you. Can't wait for a great game this week, as we are celebrating Cinco de Mayo. More on that later. See you on the field!

4/20 Softball!!

Get it?

We'll be firing up the BBQ again this week, so bring something yummy to grill up!
Bring some beers too, why not? We'll have a cooler filled with ice to keep 'em cold.

See you all on the field!

Flashback: Westin's Video

It seems like so long ago, but once upon a time, we were briefly graced with the presence of Mike 'Westin' Smith. He did it all: shot video, kept stats, played mean softball, spread good cheer, etc... We miss him and hope he is up to great things on the east coast. Here's the sweet video he made. I've watched this thing a million times and I never get tired of it. Thanks Westin!
